Digital Design is a container term used for design for an online environment.
A digital design studio nowadays has professionals in many different fields such as web designer, illustrator, photo editor, concept developer, technical engineer, UI/UX designers.
In this year we will be focussing mainly on the visual design aspects.
We will kick off exploring what the difference is between graphic design for print and designing for the online environment and how you can design for an environment that is constantly changing.
Then we will start with the basics of brand identity and visual strategy so you will know what aspects to consider when designing for yourself or for a client.
Next you will learn the Adobe application Photoshop: how to make an image suited for online use, what colour mode to use online, what sizes and formats work best, how to create an interesting image that fits your concept…
You will be designing different elements for social media and will produce a moving gif image.
The following 8 weeks you will learn Adobe Illustrator: you will be designing a logo, different symbols and learn about the basics to make an illustration based on a picture.
During the year you will be working with type: which type to choose? How many fonts should you use, what rules should be applied?
And with colour: what colours suit your design and concept? The different modes and the symbolic meaning and distinctive role in a design will be discussed.
Also, throughout the year different topics concerning digital design will be covered, such as ui/ux, search engine optimization, css and more if applicable.
All the elements you are making can implemented in your webpage (or multiple pages if you are progressing quickly). In a wireframe you will make a layout for your webpage. Then you will be focussing on the creation of content to be used in your webpage and other online usage you will see fit.
The last 8 weeks of the year are used for building your webpage(-s) in WordPress while learning the basic principles.
WordPress is a very complex application. After you finished this year, there is the possibility to continue learning about WordPress in an 8 week course offered separately.
